What Is Calacatta Viola Marble? Colour, Uses and Care
Calacatta Viola is one of the most recognisable marbles in interiors right now: a creamy white background crossed by bold burgundy, plum and violet veins. Here is what makes it special.
What it is
Calacatta Viola is a natural marble with a breccia-like pattern — fragments of white stone cemented by darker, wine-coloured veins. No two slabs are alike, so every tray, bowl or sink carved from it is unique.
Calacatta Viola vs classic Calacatta vs travertine
- Classic Calacatta – white with grey or gold veining, quieter
- Calacatta Viola – white with purple and burgundy veining, a statement
- Travertine – warm beige, porous and earthy, not a marble but a limestone
Where to use it
Because the pattern is strong, Calacatta Viola works best in focused doses: a bathroom set, a pedestal bowl, a cake stand or a vessel sink in a powder room. It pairs beautifully with walnut, brass and deep green walls.
Care
Marble is sealed before shipping. Avoid acidic cleaners (vinegar, lemon), wipe spills quickly and reseal once a year.
Calacatta Viola pieces are priced about 30% above our travertine pieces because the stone is rarer and harder to source in large, clean blocks.
