How to Style a Travertine Tray: Vanity, Coffee Table and Kitchen
A travertine tray is the decorator's shortcut: it gathers small objects into one calm composition and adds natural texture. Here is how to use one around the home.
On a bathroom vanity
Group a soap dispenser, a perfume bottle and a small plant on an 8" x 12" rectangular tray. Keeping everything on stone protects the countertop from drips and makes cleaning faster.
On a coffee table
Use a 14"–16" round or footed tray. Stack two books, add a candle and something sculptural — a brass and travertine sculpture or a small pedestal bowl — and leave some empty space.
In the entryway
A small catchall or half-moon tray by the door keeps keys, sunglasses and AirPods in one place.
In the kitchen
Corral olive oil, vinegar and salt next to the stove on a rectangular tray; a sealed stone tray is easy to wipe and will not stain like wood.
Choosing a shape
- Scalloped and oval – softer, more decorative
- Rectangular – practical for vanities and counters
- Footed – raises objects for a more styled look
